LEADERSHIP & PERFORMANCE PROGRAM (LAPP)

What is White Bird’s Leadership & Performance Program?

The Leadership & Performance Program (LAPP) offers rising 9th, 10th, and 11th graders the chance to participate in White Bird’s summer theater workshop activities – writing, performing, visual art-ing – while developing leadership and teaching skills.

LAPP campers will:

PERFORM! Participants play a central role in Friday performances. They serve as the “connective tissue,” tying together the performance’s content and helping Teaching Artists (TAs) and Assistant Teaching Artists (ATAs) ensure the show runs smoothly.

LEARN! Attend daily workshops led by veteran White Bird Teaching Artists. Workshops focus on arts education skills, fundamentals of professional conduct, and effective leadership.

GAIN LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE!  Join a group of younger campers during the week and serve as a mentor. Tasks may include helping younger campers learn lines, create costumes/props, share pro-tips, or lead the Friday show alongside the TAs and ATAs.

Dates & Rates

LAPP runs in one-week sessions. Join us for one week or all three!

FAQs

Is the Leadership & Performance Program (LAPP) only open to returning White Bird campers? No. We are excited to welcome any rising 9th, 10th, or 11th grader interested in performing and learning about the world of arts education. Everyone who registers for LAPP weeks must fill out the “ABOUT YOU” info form found here.

Is being in LAPP the same thing as being an Assistant Teaching Artist? No. LAPP campers are not ATAs. They are not staff members and will not be responsible for younger campers safety.

Does being a part of LAPP ensure me a job at White Bird in the future? No. Unfortunately, White Bird does not have enough Assistant Teaching Artist positions for all past participants of LAPP. The program is intended as a leadership development and introduction to the teaching artist profession. It’s a great way to grow your skill set, learn from seasoned educators and artists, and add leadership experience to your resume.

Do I have to do LAPP to be considered for an Assistant Teaching Artist (ATA) position? No. Applying to be an ATA is a different process. If you are a rising 12th grader or older and interested in applying to work at White Bird, complete the Work With White Bird form to get in touch with us. We typically put out a call for summer staff between March and May each year. The best way to get info about open positions is to complete the form above.
