CREATIVE FAMILIES RESIDENCY
ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
As a member of Brooklyn’s creative community for over 30 years, White Bird Productions is acutely aware of the challenges facing artists making work and supporting a family in the face of a cost of living crisis. We also understand that this crisis has disproportionately affected the economic wellbeing of women – and particularly women of color.
The Creative Families Residency aims to address these issues and the growing precarity of our city’s creative ecosystems by offering artists who identify as women, and rent-stressed or housing insecure parents the support they need to continue making work in such a challenging context.
Though not a requirement for residency, we are particularly interested in supporting artists whose work directly responds to the experience of living in Brooklyn and addresses urgent issues facing its communities.
HOW THE RESIDENCY WORKS
White Bird will run two residencies in 2024 with one artist selected for each:
RESIDENCY A: July 8 – 19
RESIDENCY B: Aug 5 – Aug 16
Both residents will receive:
-
- Free tuition to our White Bird Summer Theater Workshop for one child for the duration of the two-week residency.
- A stipend of $1,000.
- All-day access to a desk in a co-working space in or near White Bird’s Summer Theater Workshop.
- A community sharing in December 2024 hosted by White Bird.
